Donbassaero was found in 1933 as Donetsk State Airline. Then in 2003 the company was reorganized as public utility enterprise and re-branded as Donbassaero. Nowadays, Donbassaero is one of the leading airlines of Ukraine. It headed the list of domestic flights operators and take third place of total air transportations. 336 000 passengers were carried  in 2004.

At present, the airline operates scheduled flights into 15 countries (Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Greece, Germany, Austria, Israel etc) and charter flights to over 130 destinations.

Domestic destinations operated by Donbassaero: Cernauti, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkov, Kiev, Odessa and Simferopol. International scheduled destinations: Aleppo, Athens, Baku, Beirut, Dubai, Istanbul, Larnaca, Moscow, Sharm-El-Sheik, Tbilisi, Tel Aviv, Riga, Vilnius and Yerevan.

The fleet consists mainly of aircrafts Yakovlev Yak-42. Domestic flights are operated by aircraft Antonov An-24. In 2005 the fleet was supplemented with Airbus A320.
